THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station stands out as Kerala's busiest and highest-earning station, recording 1.31 crore passengers and 281.12 crores in revenue. Last year, the passenger count was 1 crore. Following closely are Ernakulam Junction, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Ernakulam Town, Kannur, Palakkad Junction and Kollam.
This ranking is based on the 2023-2024 financial year calculations. The allocation of funds for basic facility development at railway stations is determined based on revenue and performance. It is estimated that with the addition of Nemom and Kochuveli stations as subsidiary stations, Thiruvananthapuram Central will further advance in performance.
Mumbai Central tops the list in terms of passenger numbers, with 93.06 crore passengers per year. Mumbai Kalyan follows closely with 83.79 crore passengers. 28 stations are included in the Non-Suburban Group 1 (NSG1) category, which is the largest category based on passenger numbers and revenue. Among the 28 stations in the NSG1 category, eight are from the Central Railway, with Mumbai being one of them. The Southern Railway is represented by Chennai, Egmore, and Tambaram. Notably, no railway station from Kerala has made it to this list.
