THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The power supply in Kerala state will be cut off for half an hour today. KSEB has informed that there will be power restrictions. KSEB said that there will be a power restriction for half an hour due to the shortage of power supply from the power exchange and consumers should cooperate by reducing the power consumption to the maximum extent possible.
Similar restrictions were imposed on power consumption in August due to the reduced availability of electricity from the power exchange market. The last time such a step was taken by the KSEB was on August 16. The low availability of electricity and a huge increase in electricity demand is what led the board to impose restrictions at that time.
Power restrictions are imposed during peak consumption between 7 pm and 11 pm. KSEB had said that there is no other option if similar restrictions are required and consumers should cooperate.
There was a crisis due to the non-availability of electricity in August.
It was due to a generator failure at the Maithon thermal plant in Jharkhand. Kerala had tried to buy power from the power exchange on a temporary basis but had not received it.
