THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The sirens of Kerala Warnings Crisis and Hazard Management (KaWaCHaM) system prepared by the government to deal with natural calamities will alarm in different parts of the state today. This is following the completion of the second phase of testing of the State Disaster Management Authority's disaster warning system KaWaCHaM. The experiment is being conducted at 91 locations in 14 districts of Kerala.
After a single line of warning, the siren will alarm loudly. The siren will alarm thrice. This is due to natural calamities. Be it floods, tsunamis or storms, the State Disaster Management Authority's KaWaCHaM is ready. It has been installed in various government schools and government guesthouses. In addition, warning systems have been set up in other buildings and mobile towers.
When the siren alarms, the sound can reach a distance of three kilometres. Special systems are also provided for visibility at night. In local self-government bodies and other administrative centres, sirens will alarm immediately upon receiving the instructions of the disaster management authority. Sirens alarmed on an experimental basis in the morning and evening on October 1. The state disaster management authority said people should not panic when sirens alarm.
