NEW DELHI: A doctor was shot dead at a private hospital in Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj area. The victim, Javed Akhtar (55), who practiced Unani medicine, was fatally shot in the head. The police have identified two 16-year-old boys as the primary suspects in the murder.
The incident occurred at Neema Hospital around 1:45 am yesterday. The boys reportedly visited the hospital seeking treatment, with one of them having a wound on his toe that was bandaged. It is believed that one of the boys entered the doctor's cabin, where he was on night duty and opened fire.
Hospital staff rushed to the scene after hearing the gunshots and found Dr. Akhtar’s lifeless body slumped in his chair.
According to Delhi Police, the murder appears to have been premeditated. "We are treating it as a planned attack," said S.K. Jain, Joint Commissioner of the Southern Range, Delhi Police. Authorities have reviewed CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas and have formed six teams to track down the suspects.
Several medical organizations, including the IMA Junior Doctors Network and FEMA, have called for stricter measures to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals.
