THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has shielded the Chief Minister concerning the involvement of a PR agency in the interview controversy and the allegations raised by PV Anvar MLA, including the RSS-ADGP meeting and the complaint against P Sasi. Yesterday, the party's state committee aligned with the Chief Minister's stance and party secretary MV Govindan justified the Chief Minister's actions during a press conference.
With the party state committee assessing that the ADGP's meeting with RSS leaders was a lapse on his part, the Chief Minister announced that the government would take action after examining the DGP's report. MV Govindan also said that the ADGP's meetings with the RSS leaders were a serious matter. He assured that action would be taken based on the investigation report.
The Chief Minister also gave an explanation about his interview with The Hindu newspaper. The Chief Minister told the state committee that he didn't have a PR agency. He said that he had not appointed anyone or paid money for it. According to the CM, he decided to give an interview to The Hindu after TK Devakumar's son Subrahmanian, a freelance journalist, repeatedly approached him for an interview.
It was criticised that the CPI's open demand for ADGP's removal was unbecoming of the coalition courtesy and that Binoy Viswam's comments resembled the opposition's. The CPM state committee also assessed that the controversies tarnished the reputation of both the government and the Left Front.
Attack against leadership: MV Govindan
CPM state secretary MV Govindan said that attacks are taking place against the leadership at a time when the party and the government are doing well. MV Govindan said the allegations against the chief minister were part of the campaign for the same. "The propaganda of RSS affiliation is part of it. The right-wing media is also helping in this," he alleged.
"The chief minister has a good place among the secular sections and among the minorities. Attempts are being made to eliminate this. There is propaganda that it was the LDF that set the stage for the BJP's victory in Thrissur. However, in Thrissur, the main reason for the BJP victory was that they got the UDF vote, which fell by 86,000. We did lose some of the votes we were supposed to get. It was the Christian vote of the Congress that was lost. They have investigated it and found this. Only the report is not being released," Govindan said.
