My favourite leader in the early 1980s was MVR. Even when the alternative document (badal rekha) came, there was still admiration for MVR. When we participated in the protest and were lying in Kannur Central Jail after hearing abuses and getting beaten up, there was acute water scarcity there. MVR visited the jail.
Personal enquiries with us. Words of comfort after checking our wounds.
Strict instructions to the jail superintendent to give us treatment. Order to bring water from Ancharakandy..! When we got out of jail, preparations for MVR's new party were underway. Meetings all over the state. A large crowd in each. There were no TV channels then. The newspapers gave their verdict... The Marxist Party is finished!!
Anyone watching MVR's public meetings would have felt. Will CPI(M) exist anymore? Nothing happened. In 1987, the LDF came to power with a huge majority. MVR's party became the only one-member party in the House. Anyone has the right to dream that what senior leader MV Raghavan was not able to do, will be possible in the new era.. But... Eda mone! This is a different party. Go and play with someone at your own level.
