TRIPRAYAR: Just one month back, a video of Chenthrapini native Koroth Lalu shaking a leg to the tunes of the hit song ‘Mukala Mukabla Laila’ spread like wildfire across the internet. It was at the insistence of his children that Lalu decided to dance on his daughter’s wedding day. The video was watched by more than 10 lakh users on Facebook and Instagram in a single day. Now it has crossed twenty-five lakhs.
Last month, Lalu's elder daughter Devika got married at Edmuttam Gadha Auditorium. A month before the wedding, Devika, her sister Anamika and their friends started practising dance for the big day.
Lalu, a young professional dancer, quit the field after his fellow dancer and close relative, died in an accident while going for a dance program. For 18 years, Lalu cared not to return to the dance floor but had to acquiesce to the requests of his children.
Interestingly, the dance was an impromptu performance from Lalu. After finishing the photo session, Lalu was busy interacting with guests when his daughter requested him to be on stage to perform. He was not in a mood to reject and quickly trudged to the stage dusting up the dancer inside him. The song was played and the rest turned into history. The guests were mindblown by Lalu’s performance as he easily outsmarted his daughters with the moves. It also ensured that the fire within him was still aflame.
“I was a professional dancer but had to leave the field 18 years back following my relative’s death. Later, I found a living through painting works. It was at the insistence of my children that I performed again” said Lalu.
