KOTTAYAM: In a shocking incident, a 70-year-old man was stabbed to death by his son. The incident took place in Edayadi near Kumaranelloor bridge. The deceased is Edayadi native Raju (70) Following the incident, Raju's son Ashok (42) was arrested by the Gandhinagar police. The incident occurred yesterday morning at 11:45 am. According to the police, Ashok is a drug addict.
According to the neighbours, both Raju and Ashok used to quarrel with each other constantly. On Tuesday morning, loud cries were heard from the house, following which the neighbours contacted the police. When the police reached the house, Ashok closed the front door from the inside. The police team led by SHO T Sreejith found Raju's body with stab wounds after breaking down the door and entering the house.
Ashokan, who used to do freelance design work online, was married to a Bulgarian national 12 years ago. Although he moved abroad following his marriage, his continued drug use led to conflicts with his wife. Ashokan returned to India four years ago. He used to become violent due to his drug addiction. The police have sent him for treatment multiple times. He is also an accused in a case of attacking the police. It was Raju who used to cook food for Ashokan. Ashokan's mother is undergoing treatment at a different location. The body is currently kept at the Kottayam Medical College mortuary.
