'Many close friends ignored Prayaga's phone calls...'; Sabumon Abdusamad hits back at critics

KOCHI: It was news when actress Prayaga Martin appeared for questioning at the Ernakulam South police station just two days ago. Amid the hue and cry, camera lenses also focused on a similar celebrity face — Sabumon Abdusamad.

The actor said he was the personal legal advisor of Prayaga and was accompanying the actress. However, this didn’t bode well with netizens and Sabu drew flak from many quarters for his decision.

Sabumon while responding to a television channel:

“Prayaga is my family friend and most people would not have the courage to fight such a situation. Even family members would crumble upon hearing that the case is associated with drugs and banned substances. Even Prayaga told me how many of her close friends ignored her phone calls for fear of their phone calls getting traced.

I am an advocate and I felt the need to help her out. It is something basic we do for our close ones. After the visit to the police station, many started criticizing me. Somebody even made me realise that I'm a father of two daughters and it was morally wrong from my side to help Prayaga.

However, we should not restrict our mindset to such narrow levels. It would be better to see things from Prayaga’s angle and I felt the need to help. Even talks are ongoing within my family over my decision to help Prayaga. I suggested she approach the station without covering her face since she was pretty sure of not committing any sin.

Prayaga testified that she had no prior acquaintance with Om Prakash. She went to the luxury hotel at the insistence of friends and had no idea about the rave party planned. The statements of 15 people are to be recorded. The police will then conclude the role of each in the coming days. The officials think that the statement from Prayaga Martin is genuine and satisfactory.
