THRISSUR: An investigation has been initiated against MP Suresh Gopi following allegations of misusing an ambulance during the Thrissur Pooram. The complaint was filed by CPI Thrissur Constituency Secretary Adv Sumesh claimed that Suresh Gopi used an ambulance to access a restricted area during the event. Thrissur police have started probing the incident, with ACP recording Sumesh's statement.
The controversy arose when footage of Suresh Gopi stepping out of the front seat of a Sevabharathi ambulance, to mediate a conflict related to the Pooram, surfaced. The Thiruvambadi section had earlier called off part of the Pooram, citing disarray in the ceremonies. Both the LDF and UDF parties have accused Suresh Gopi of conspiring to gain access to the event site using the ambulance, in an area where other vehicles were prohibited. They also pointed out that Suresh Gopi, who had been on rest due to health issues, did not attend any other Pooram events.
Responding to the allegations, Suresh Gopi stated that there was a conspiracy behind the messing up of the Pooram festivities. He explained that he was called to the site when the fireworks events were interrupted. "There is a plan, a conspiracy behind this. I was called at 2:00 pm. I was blocked, so I came in Sevabharathi's ambulance," Suresh Gopi said. He also stressed the need for a thorough investigation to determine if any political interference was involved and added that he had acted upon the request of the Thiruvambadi Devaswom.
