THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If one wants to go from the IT city of Kazhakoottam to Menamkulam, he would have to think not once but several times. It is not easy to reach Menamkulam via the Arattuvazhi Road, where the tar is broken and there are potholes, waterlogging and muddy puddles. The crisis is that there is no way for water to flow through both sides as there is no drain. Accidents are also common, including for women who ride two-wheeler riders. Traffic congestion on this road is also severe in the morning and evening.
If one turns from the Kazhakoottam police station side, he would have to cross Arattuvazhi and go to Menamkulam via the railway overbridge. Arattuvazhi Road started collapsing two years ago.
Locals allege that the authorities are watching as spectators without taking any steps to renovate the main road connecting Kazhakoottam junction to the coastal area of Thumba.
This is the route through which vehicles of several educational institutions like ISRO, those of various companies in Kinfra Apparel Park, Menamkulam, Police Women's Battalion Camp, Thumba St Xavier's College, Marian Engineering College, Marian Arts College, Jyothis Central School, Jyothinilayam School, Over Public School, Loyola etc pass through. As there is a garage of private buses near Pullattukari temple, long-distance buses, containers to Kinfra and lorries going from Menamkulam FCI godown to various depots pass through this route.
