Widespread protests on death of ADM; youth congress seeks action against Divya

KANNUR: Protests intensify over the death of Kannur ADM K Naveen Babu. Kannur district panchayat president P P Divya had leveled allegations of corruption against Naveen Babu yesterday. Soon after that, he was found hanging at his residence Various organizations are staging marches against Divya in connection with his death.

A clash broke out during the march staged by the youth league. Some unruly scenes were witnessed during the march. Youth Congress, Youth League, Congress and BJP workers are intensifying their protests demanding the resignation of the district panchayat president.

District Collector Arun K Vijayan was detained by the Collectorate staff led by the NGO Association to protest the death of Naveen Babu. The collector was later released by the police. A case should be filed against Divya for abetting suicide and action should be taken against her, were some of the demands raised.

Yuva Morcha and Youth Congress activists also staged protests in front of Kannur district panchayat president's Office. Yuva Morcha district general secretary Arjun Mavilakandi, district secretary Arjun Das, treasurer Akshay Krishna, BJP district secretary Arun Kaithapram and mandalam secretary Binil were arrested by the police for showing black flags protest against Divya.

The police also forcibly removed Youth Congress workers protesting in front of the office. The BJP and Congress workers also protested for not allowing them to enter the premises of the quarters where he was found dead. It is alleged that no one was allowed to enter in order to destroy evidence. His body was also not shown to anyone.
