ALAPPUZHA: A three-member gang was arrested with hawala money while attempting to transport it on a train. The police arrested the trio during an inspection at Kayamkulam railway station. The accused were caught following a tip-off that hawala money was being brought to Kerala from Bengaluru. Kayamkulam police seized black money worth Rs 1,10,01,150 from their possession. The arrested individuals are Naseem, Ramees Ahmed, and Nizar, all hailing from Karunagappally.
The accused were arrested in a joint operation by the Alappuzha District Anti-Narcotics Squad and the Kayamkulam Police. The inspection was prompted by secret information suggesting that large quantities of hawala money were being smuggled into various districts of the state via train and road routes.
The arrested suspects have confessed to smuggling counterfeit currency multiple times during police interrogation. However, this is the first time they have been caught, according to the police. The suspects, who had previously worked abroad, have been involved in smuggling counterfeit currency for the past year.
