NEW DELHI: The Indian government has taken a significant step to enhance the security of flights and air travel across the country. From now on, specially trained commandos from the National Security Guard (NSG) will be deployed on select flights to ensure passenger safety. These elite personnel will be operating in the capacity of sky marshals, blending in with travellers to provide an added layer of security.
The government took this decision considering the recent increase in fake bomb threats against several aircraft in the country. Selected domestic and international flights will have sky marshals providing security. The decision has been made as part of enhancing civil aviation security protocols. Although they are referred to as Black Cats or Sky Marshals, their duty will not involve carrying guns in uniform.
The security personnel will travel disguised as regular passengers. Each flight will have one or two such officials, equipped with hidden firearms and anti-hijacking devices. Trained in strategies to safeguard passengers, their presence will remain unknown to fellow travellers. Only the Pilot-in-Command will be able to identify them.
