BENGALURU: Police said the charred body recovered three weeks ago from a coffee planation at Kodagu in Karnataka, is a murder. The body is that of Ramesh (54), a businessman. His wife Niharika (29), lover Nikhil (28) and his friend Ankur have been arrested in the case.

Police said the three killed Ramesh for money. The murder was committed in Hyderabad and travelled across state borders to dispose of the body.

The police found a charred body in a coffee plantation near Suntikoppa in Kodagu on October 8. After efforts to identify the body failed, they examined the CCTV footage to check the vehicles that passed through the area. The police then noticed a red Benz car and confirmed as Ramesh's vehicle. Meanwhile, Niharika had lodged a missing complaint with the police. As the probe progressed, police suspected the role of Niharika. When she was taken into custody and questioned, she confessed to have committed the crime.

Police said Niharika excelled in her studies. After completing engineering, she was working in a firm. She married at an early age, became a mother and divorced due to marital issues. Meanwhile, while living in Haryana, she was jailed for some financial irregularities. She met Ankur, a veterinarian, in jail.

After released from jail, Niharika married Ramesh. This was his second marriage. After marrying him, she was leading a very luxurious life. Meanwhile, she fell in love with Akhil. One day, she asked her husband for Rs 8 crore. When he refused the amount, she along with Nikhil and Ankur, planned his murder for wealth. Ramesh was choked to death at Uppal in Hyderabad. After returning home, she took his money and travelled more than 800 km with the body to Kodagu and burnt the body in the coffee plantation. After reaching Hyderabad, she lodged a missing complaint with the police.
