KANNUR: The Thalassery Principal Sessions Court will deliver its verdict today on the anticipatory bail plea of former Kannur Zilla Panchayat President P P Divya in the suicide case linked to the death of ADM Naveen Babu. A favorable judgment would prevent Divya’s arrest; however, if the plea is denied, she has the option to approach the High Court or file an interim application seeking protection from arrest until the verdict is finalized.

The court's decision holds critical implications, as a rejection would allow the police to proceed with Divya’s arrest. In the event of an arrest or voluntary surrender, Divya would be produced before the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, where further proceedings would determine whether she is remanded to custody.

The case, registered on the 17th of this month, includes charges under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code for abetment of suicide. Divya, the sole accused, sought anticipatory bail on the 18th and Judge K T Nisar Ahmed presided over the arguments. Two weeks have passed since ADM Naveen Babu’s death, yet the investigation has reportedly stalled, with the police unable to record a statement from Divya as the probe continues.
