Dressed as a priest to snatch chain and money; threw excreta at police

ADOOR: Theft case accused who was locked up threw his excreta at the police. The accused also tried to attack the police during interrogation. The accused Shibu S Nair (47) is a native of Kanjiramkulam, Thiruvananthapuram. Shibu entered the house of an old woman posing as a priest and snatched her chain after praying. Shibu stole the gold chain of Mariamma, a native of Enadimangalam.

Shibu arrived at Mariamma's house at 12 noon on November 1, disguised as a priest. Shibu said the church had sanctioned a loan to Mariamma's daughter Molly and needed Rs 1,000 for further proceedings. When Mariamma came with the money, Shibu went on the run with the money and the chain. He was taken into custody from Mundakkayam.

Shibu was injured in an accident in Thrissur last August. He was in jail for allegedly threatening a nurse with a knife on her neck in the ambulance at that time. He was released from jail on October 30. Shibu is an accused in 36 cases in various districts, police said.
