CHENNAI: A case has been filed against actress Kasthuri Shankar for using defamatory remarks against Telugu people settled in Tamil Nadu. A case was registered by Greater Chennai Police on a complaint filed by the All India Telugu Conference. A charge for inciting riots on the basis of caste and religion was imposed on the actress.
The actress made the controversial remark at a demonstration held by the Hindu Makkal party in Egmore, Chennai.
“Telugu people who came as attendants in palaces across Tamil Nadu 300 years ago have now adopted Tamil identity.” This was Kasthuri’s inflammatory speech that triggered violent protests in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
With the issue inviting the ire of people across borders, Kasthuri came forward with an apology and alleged media of twisting her words. The actress said she had no intention to hurt Telugu people, who gave her love and fame in her film career.
Kasthuri, who played notable roles in Malayalam films, is a BJP supporter and a staunch critic of the DMK.
