KANNUR: P P Divya, former president of Kannur district panchayat president, was granted bail on the consideration of being a woman. The court observed that the absence of the hub of a family even for a short period of time will disturb the dependents. The court considered the fact that Divya's father is a heart patient. The judgment also said that the prosecution has not been able to prove that she should be kept in custody again. Divya had clarified in the bail plea about her family situation and the illness of her father.
The Thalassery Principal Sessions Court granted bail to Divya this morning. Divya was granted bail on the 11th day of being jailed. The court heard her bail plea on Tuesday and adjourned the verdict to today.
She should pay a bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties are required. She should appear every Monday between 10 am and 11 am and sign before the investigation officer. She should not leave the district without court’s permission. She should not influence witnesses. She should not involve in other crimes and asked her to surrender her passport, said the copy of the verdict.
Divya claimed in the bail plea that she cooperated with the investigation and that there was circumstantial evidence that the ADM had accepted bribe. The defence lawyer argued that Divya's accusation was well-intentioned and the court agreed that she should have avoided talking like that at the farewell function.
Meantime, Naveen Babu's wife Manjusha responded that she expected that bail would not be granted to Divya. She said that she will discuss further steps with her lawyers and will respond later.
