WAYANAD: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has ordered a Vigilance probe into the incident where worm-infested rice and food items were distributed to landslide victims in Meppadi panchayat.

The Vigilance will investigate if the food grains distributed by the panchayat are from old stock or if the available food grains were changed in any way. The Chief Minister has ordered a preliminary inquiry into the matter and demanded an immediate report.

The worm-infested food items and dirty clothes were found in the kits distributed to the victims of the Wayanad landslides. The kits distributed by Meppadi panchayat contained stale atta, semolina etc. Following this, DYFI and BJP organised protest marches to the panchayat office. The panchayat is ruled by the UDF.
