KOZHIKODE: Son-in-law has been arrested in connection with the murder of a housewife and then fleeing with gold and mobile phone. Mahmood alias Mammad (39), a native of Arakkonam in Chennai, was arrested in connection with the murder of Asmabi from Perumanna. He was caught at Palakkad Junction railway station while he was escaping in Chennai superfast train. Asmabi's gold ornaments and mobile phone were recovered from the accused.

Asmabi, who was staying in the flat, was found dead in her bedroom by her daughter Sinobi. Sinobi found her mother dead on Wednesday night when she returned from work. Sanobi became suspicious when she realised that Asmabi's jewellery and mobile phone had been lost and her husband Mammad was missing. She immediately informed the police.

After receiving the complaint, the police launched an investigation and came to know that Mammad had reached Kozhikode railway station after committing the crime. The police then collected the CCTV footage of the railway station. It was with the help of the railway police that the police came to know that Mammad had boarded the Chennai Superfast train. He was later arrested at Olavakode.

According to the police, Asmabi questioned Mammad drinking at home without going to work and the ensuing quarrel led to the murder. The accused stole two sovereigns of gold and a mobile phone belonging to Asmabi. During interrogation, it was revealed that Mehmood wanted to end his family life with his wife and move out after another marriage.
