PATHANAMTHITTA: The youth, who organised a birthday bash on the public road after disrupting transportation and causing inconvenience to the people, has been arrested. The police arrested Shiyas, who cut a cake on the public road at Pathanamthitta St Peter’s Junction, attended by more than 50 of his friends in 20 cars. He is the first accused in the case connected to it.

Shiyas is a native of Vettippuram in Pathanamthitta. It is alleged that the celebration was held under the leadership of Kammattippadam, a club of DYFI workers in Vettippuram. The celebrations were held at St Peter's Junction in Pathanamthitta from 9 pm to 10 pm on Saturday night. Following the incident, transportation came to a standstill. This is the route to General Hospital, Pathanamthitta Central Junction, Thiruvalla, Stadium Road and Vettippuram. The group shared the video of the celebrations on social media.

Holding birthday celebrations in the middle of the road earlier also has sparked a controversy. KAAPA case accused DYFI leader, a group in an inebriated condition at Elavumthitta and a mafia group near the excise office in Parakkod had celebrated birthdays in the similar manner.

Meantime, the CPM has clarified that Shiyas has no connection with the party. There are many cases against him. CPM Pathanamthitta area secretary M V Sanju said that if there are party and DYFI workers in the group, action will be taken. The DYFI district leadership also responded that they were not aware of the birthday celebrations.
