WAYANAD: The Waqf Board has sent a notice for encroaching land in Wayanad also. Five families at Thavinjal in Mananthavadi have received the notice of the Waqf Board. The notice alleged encroachment of 4.7 acres out of the 5.77 acres of property belonging to the Waqf Board. The notice was sent to V P Salim, C V Hamza, Jamal, Rahmat and Ravi.

The notice was sent on October 10. The notice has directed that action will be taken under the Waqf Act to recover the illegally occupied land and if any, documents related to the land should be produced within the 16th of this month. The Waqf Board directed the five families to appear on November 19th in connection with the proceedings.

Meantime, the land protection struggles of 614 families in Munambam, victims of the Waqf Act, is spreading to the state level. The Syro Malabar Church also announced their support for the strike led by the Latin Catholic Church. The Left and right fronts fear that the 29-day strike will influence the Christian votes in the by-elections.
