KOCHI: Muslim League leaders are trying to reach a consensus on the Munambam Waqf land dispute. As part of this, the leaders reached the archdiocese headquarters in Varapuzha and held discussions with Mar Joseph Kalathiparambil, Archbishop of Verapoly Archdiocese. Muslim League state president Sadiq Ali Thangal and national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty MLA held discussions. Other bishops of the archdiocese and members of the Munambam protest committee participated in the discussion.

The leaders had earlier made it clear that the Muslim League will take the initiative and hold talks if the government does not find a solution to the Munambam land issue. The Munambam area comes under the Archdiocese of Varapuzha. The protest pandal has been set up at the church premises in Munambam.

After the meeting, Sadiq Ali Thangal said that there was an amicable discussion and the main suggestion in the meeting was to find a solution to the Munambam issue at the earliest. Kunhalikutty said the discussion took place in a friendly atmosphere and the Farook College Committee is of the view that the Munambam issue should be resolved amicably.

Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil said that the League leaders had come in solidarity with the Munambam protest. "I am very happy with the discussion. This is a human problem. We have to move forward by preserving religious harmony. We are proud that everyone is standing by us," the Archbishop said.
