PATHANAMTHITTA: The police team, probing the death of nursing student Ammu Sajeev, recorded the statements of Ammu's classmates, College Principal N Abdul Salam and teachers on Monday. The police also went to Ayirooppara in Thiruvananthapuram and recorded the statements of Ammu's relatives. Meanwhile, the Health University has announced a probe into the death of Ammu. The inquiry committee consists of the Dean of Student Affairs, the Dean of Nursing, the Chairman of the Nursing Board and a member of the Academic Council. The inquiry was announced on the instructions of Health Minister Veena George.
Ammu was a fourth-year student at Chuttippara SME Nursing College. College authorities are saying that there was no lapse on their part in the incident where Ammu fell from the top of the hostel building. The principal informed the police that he had followed all necessary legal procedures after receiving a complaint from Ammu's father. Ammu's father was initially called to the college last Wednesday. However, the meeting was postponed to yesterday considering his inconvenience. The principal also mentioned that a memo had been issued to the accused individuals.
The teachers told the police that all the issues between Ammu and her classmates had been resolved through talks. They also said that they had tried to resolve the issues within the college itself. The three accused students did not come to the college yesterday. The police said that they will be questioned the next day. Ammu's mobile phone will be given for forensic examination.
Ammu fell from the third floor of her college hostel in Vettuppuram on Friday evening. Although she was rushed to the hospital, her life could not be saved. Following her death, her family had raised ragging allegations against her classmates.
