THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Protests are intensifying against former Union Minister and BJP leader V Muraleedharan after allegations turned rife that the BJP leader downplayed the Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslide disaster.

“It is factually incorrect to say that the whole of Wayanad was razed away by the landslides. Only three wards of two panchayats were destroyed. There is no point getting emotional while addressing the issue.” said Muraleedharan.

LDF and Congress demanded that Muraleedharan apologize to the Malayalees. Meanwhile, huge protests have already started from all quarters against the facile remark from the former union minister.

T Siddique MLA remarked that the true colours of BJP have finally come out while CPM leader CK Saseendran arraigned Muraleedharan saying the remark was insulting to the victims of one of the worst landslides that ever happened in the country.

Meanwhile, the hartal by the UDF Wayanad district committee today to protest against the central government’s decision disallowing 'national disaster' status to Wayanad landslides, is progressing.
