CHENNAI: Rajinikanth said that MGR's wife VN Janaki's decision to enter politics was wrong. He said that she corrected that mistake and handed over AIADMK's 'Two Leaves' symbol, its Brahmastra, to Jayalalithaa. Rajinikanth was speaking online at the Janaki Birth Centenary Celebrations organised by the AIADMK.
The superstar's remarks about Tamil Nadu's first woman chief minister have been widely discussed. "When you make a decision, you have to think whether it will make you and others happy. Don't make that decision if it's only for you. That decision should be taken if it gives happiness and satisfaction to others," Rajinikanth said, quoting Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Janaki reversing her earlier decision and deciding to hand over the 'two leaves symbol' to Jayalalithaa is commendable.
VN Janaki was a popular actress in the film industry even before MGR. Janaki became MGR's wife after she fell in love with him and gave up all film opportunities. They first acted as a pair in the film Maruthanad Elavarasee. It was the difficult circumstances that led to MGR's death that brought Janaki into politics. Later, keeping in mind the interest of the party and the people, Janaki stayed away from politics and gave the charge to Jayalalithaa," Rajinikanth said. Rajini's speech was referring to his decision to enter politics and withdrawing later.
Janaki is a native of Vaikom in Kottayam. Janaki had pushed Jayalalithaa out of MGR's mourning procession vehicle on December 24, 1987, after MGR's death. Following this, Janaki became the chief minister.
