PALAKKAD: BJP state president K. Surendran said that he is destined to take the blame for the defeat in Palakkad. Surendran clarified that the entire burden of the defeat should not be placed on C. Krishnakumar and that Krishnakumar did not want to be the candidate from Palakkad. "It is a fact that Krishnakumar could not garner that many votes when compared to E. Sreedharan. I accept that. It is the central leadership that should decide whether I should step down or not", said K Surendran. He said that personal preferences have no importance in it.
"The moral responsibility for the success or failure of the election lies with the state president as the person leading the team. No one else is responsible for it. The state president is the primary responsibility for all three constituencies, whether in the selection of candidates or in the election campaign. If there is any lapse in my work, it should be audited," added Surendran.
There has been a difference in votes not only in the Palakkad municipality but also in Kannadi, Pirayiri and Mathur panchayats. There will be a proper examination of this. There will be an effort to regain the lost support. Surendran added that Shobha Surendran has not carried out any coup. He clarified that the criticism of the Palakkad municipality chairman against C. Krishnakumar will be examined.
