ALAPPUZHA: A case has been registered against four doctors after a baby was born with serious disabilities. The Alappuzha South police have registered a case against Dr Shirley and Dr Pushpa, gynecologists of Alappuzha Kadappuram Children and Women's Hospital, and two doctors of a private lab.

The family complained that the baby's ears and eyes are not in the right place. The baby is not opening its mouth and eyes. There is a hole in the heart. There are no genitals. The face is not in the right shape. If the baby is laid on the bed, the tongue goes inside. The legs and arms are curved. The baby's mother in her complaint said the doctors did not find any disability despite several scans during pregnancy. The family has filed a complaint with the chief minister over the incident. The director of the health department has sought a report from the DMO. The DMO has also asked the superintendent of Alappuzha Kadappuram Women and Children's Hospital to submit a report immediately. The superintendent will soon hand over the preliminary investigation report to the DMO.

Meantime, Dr Pushpa said the allegations against her are baseless. The baby's mother was treated only in the first two months of pregnancy. The baby's disability cannot be detected during this period. The disability is detected in the fifth month. Dr Pushpa also clarified that the baby's mother did not come to her for treatment at that time.
