Woman killed, three injured as lorry crashes into group sleeping at bus stop

PALAKKAD: A woman was killed and three others injured after being hit by a lorry while sleeping at a bus stop in Chittoor. The dead is Parvathy of Mysore. The incident happened early Friday morning at 3 am.

The lorry first hit a tree nearby. The lorry then losing control crashed into a nearby shop and then to the bus stop next to it. At this time, four including Parvathy were sleeping at the bus stop.

The lorry ran over Parvathy. Reports said she died on the spot itself. The others escaped with injuries. They are undergoing treatment in the district hospital.

‘The lorry was over speeded. It has been some time since the nomadic group including Parvathy came. They used to live a little far away earlier. They had been sleeping in the bus stop for two days. The lorry driver was not drunk and is a Swami. The vehicle was in high speed,' a local said. The police have taken the lorry driver into custody. Parvathy's body has been shifted to the hospital.
