THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a warning of heavy rains as part of Fengal cyclone. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said heavy rains are likely to intensify this week. According to that, the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts in various districts.
Yellow alert
Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram are on yellow alert today. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kannur and Kasargod will be on yellow alert tomorrow (Monday) and Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad on Tuesday. Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Wednesday.
The possibility of isolated heavy rains is predicted in the districts. The Central Meteorological Department defines heavy rain as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours. Rains with thundershowers are expected.

Meantime, the IMD has said that the strength of Cyclone Fengal has decreased. The cyclone has now become an extremely severe depression. Due to the influence of Fengal, which fully entered the land at 11:30 last night, heavy rains are continuing in Puducherry, Cuddalore and Villupuram. It is reported that four people have died in rainstorms in Chennai. The closed Chennai airport was opened at 1 am this morning.
