The accident occurred at 9:30 pm on Monday at Kalarcode-Changanassery Road in Alappuzha. The bus coming from Guruvayur to Kayamkulam crashed into the Tavera car. Three people seated in the front and two from the rear seat died instantly after the crash. The students were heading towards Alappuzha to watch a movie. Eyewitnesses confirmed that it was the speeding car that rammed into the KSRTC fast passenger bus. The car got smashed to shreds in the accident. It took great effort from police and locals to tear apart the vehicle, take out the bodies and rush the injured to hospital.

According to onlookers, the Tavera car used by the students overtook a vehicle but came in close range of another bus coming in the opposite direction. The brakes were applied but the rain made the road slippery. The car thus skidded into the opposite lane and crashed into a KSRTC bus. Heavy rain, poor visibility and the youthful frivolities proved to be the deadly combination.
