THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a move that will impact households and industries across Kerala, the government has increased the electricity tariff in the state by 16 paise per unit. The revised rates came into effect yesterday.
According to the government order, the tariff hike will be followed by another increase of 12 paise per unit next year. The industrial sector has also been affected with an average rate hike of two per cent.
Although the KSEB had sought a 30-paise hike, the demand was rejected by the Regulatory Commission. The demand for summer tariff and fixed charge was also not approved. The rate hike will not be applicable for the first 40 units. Instead, the various levels of rate hikes will be applicable to the units above that.
