THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Information Commission has announced that previously omitted parts of the Hema Committee report will be released tomorrow. The Information Commission has announced that the details from pages 49 to 53 of the report will be released on Saturday. The Hema Committee report, which exposed the dark underbelly of the Malayalam film industry, was a major topic of discussion following its release a few months ago.
Some journalists had submitted applications under the Right to Information Act requesting to release the portions omitted from the report. Apart from the parts excluded as directed by the Information Commission, the government had independently omitted certain portions (pages 49 to 53) from the report. These portions will be handed over to the applicants tomorrow. The Information Commissioner's decisive ruling came after considering the journalists' appeals.
The Hema Committee report was submitted five years ago, recommending the government formulate a law to prevent gender discrimination and exploitation of women in the film industry. The report revealed severe discrimination and exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry. Following the release of the report, several individuals came out levelling sexual harassment allegations against various actors and other influential men in the film industry. The state government had also appointed a special investigation team to investigate the complaints and take further action.
