Heavy rains in coming hours; various districts warned; strong winds likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain is likely to lash the state today. Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has defined very heavy rain between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

Yellow alert has been issued in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki. The possibility of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain means that the rainfall will fall between

64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours.


According to the latest radar image, there is a possibility of moderate/heavy rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in isolated places in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki in the next three hours.


The IMD has informed that fishing should not be done along the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts today and tomorrow, and there is no restriction on fishing along the Karnataka coast. There is a possibility of strong winds and bad weather with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and at times up to 55 kmph along the Kerala coast.
