NEW DELHI: Haryana Police stopped the 'Dilli Chalo' march of farmers to the national capital. The march was stopped by the police at Shambhu on the Punjab-Haryana border. There was a conflict on the border due to this. The police fired tear gas and water cannons at the protesting farmers. With this, the farmers ended their march. Ten farmers were injured in the protest.
The march, which started at 12 noon today, was stopped by the police at two places. 101 farmers had participated in the march. The police is of the opinion that if the protesters want to go to Delhi, they need permission. The case is pending before the Supreme Court. It is suggested to call a meeting to solve the problem. The meeting is on the 18th. Ambala SP told the media that the rules should be followed until then.
The farmers are demanding to be allowed to go to Delhi. "It is our right to go to the national capital to protest. Farmers' voices cannot be suppressed," the representative of the farmers told the media. Congress leader and wrestler Bajrang Punia joined the farmers at Shambhu border. "On the one hand, the government says that it is not stopping the farmers. On the other hand, the government uses tear gas. The work of the police is similar to what is done on the Pakistan border. When the leaders go to Delhi to protest, do they get permission?'- he asked.
This is the third time farmers are organizing a protest march to Delhi. A march was organized on December 6 and 8. Haryana Police had not allowed the march to proceed due to security concerns.
