PATHANAMTHITTA: The marriage of Anu and Nikhil lasted only for fifteen days. The lives of the young couple, who had started their new life with thousands of dreams, were snatched away by the sudden and unexpected death that came in the form of a car accident. After their marriage, the two had gone to Malaysia for their honeymoon before going to their workplace in Canada. After returning home with sweet memories of their honeymoon, they were on their way home from the airport with their loved ones when the accident occurred.
Anu and Nikhil, natives of Mallasseri, died in a road accident that occurred at 4 am on the Punalur-Muvattupuzha state highway at Koodal Murinjakal in Pathanamthitta. The couple got married on November 30. The accident occurred barely seven kilometers away from their home. Nikhil's father Mathai Eapen and Anu's father Biju P George, also were killed in the accident. The Maruti Swift car they were travelling in rammed into a bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh. The car has been completely damaged. The people inside were rescued by cutting the car open after much effort. The locals who rushed to the spot after hearing a loud noise were the first to carry out the rescue operations. Biju was driving the car. It is believed that he may have fallen asleep.
Locals said the accident that happened today was at a place where accidents are common. It has been a year since the construction of the Punalur–Muvattupuzha state highway was completed. Many people have died in accidents after the new road was built. The locals point that the lack of speed breakers and improper alignment are the reasons for this. Due to the small curve in Murinjakal and the smoothness of the road, vehicles skid, which causes more accidents. Two months ago, two Tamil Nadu natives had died in an accident, and the locals say that the authorities are not taking this seriously despite the regular accidents.
