THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president K Surendran strongly criticised CPM for their U-turn over ‘MEC 7’, a workout plan alleged to have links with banned Islamist organisations. Surendran harped on the comments made by Kozhikode CPM district secretary and called it extremely serious.
K SURENDRAN:
A prominent leader of the ruling party admitted that hardliners had links with 1,000 units of MEC 7. But CPM top leadership intervened and made the Kozhikode district secretary eat his words. Police and ATS should investigate into MEC 7 organisation. Despite all these allegations, it is doubtful that the state intelligence did not receive any information on the terrorist organisation.
The popularity of MEC 7 after the banning of Popular Front is dubious. The leaders involved in the group should be found. P. Mohanan admitted that the admins of 'MEC 7' WhatsApp group are Popular Front - Jamaat-e-Islami workers. The funding for the organisation and the foreign hawala dealings, if any, should be investigated.
Even after the ban on the Popular Front, Kerala is witnessing the latest example of the state government's fawning of Islamist hardliners. It is no surprise that the Congress leadership, as usual, is supporting the fundamentalist but the CPM needs to do course correction. If needed central agencies should be brought to investigate the case.
It is objectionable that the police did not file a case against Samasta leader Umar Faizy Mukkam, who publicly insulted Hindu gods. The silence of UDF and LDF over the issue speaks volumes. If the same had been spilt by some random Hindu sage in Uttar Pradesh, the opposition and the ruling front would have gone berserk in Kerala. Protest march would have filled the streets followed by candlelight vigilante.
The hypocritical secular position of Congress and CPM is now out in the open.”
