KOZHIKODE: The police have intensified efforts to bring back the accused from abroad in connection with the incident of claiming the life of an aged woman in Kannur and leaving her nine-year-old grandchild in a state of coma. A lookout notice has been issued against the accused identified as Meethil Punnathil Shajeel.
The Kozhikode Principal Sessions Court had rejected Shajeel's anticipatory bail plea the other day. Following this, the investigation team issued a lookout notice.
The accident happened on February 17 along the national highway at Chorode in Vadakara, Kozhikode around 9 pm. The car struck Drishana, daughter of Sudheer of Kannur Mele Chovva Vadakkan Kovil and Smitha, and her grandmother Baby of Thalassery.
The white Swift Car KL 18 R 1846 driven by Shajeel struck the two while they were crossing the road after alighting from a bus. Baby died on the spot and the child fell into a coma.
Soon after the incident, the accused fled to UAE. The car had earlier been taken into police custody. The police found that an insurance claim was filed by the accused to repair the car and this led in identifying the accused. He had obtained insurance after saying that his car had crashed into a wall. The police checked the insurance claims after February 17. This helped the police to reach to Shajeel.
