NEW DELHI: A youth has attempted suicide near the Parliament building in the national capital. The incident took place at around 4.30 pm today. The youth, who arrived near the Parliament building, attempted suicide by setting himself on fire, the witnesses said. Following the incident, the police arrived at the spot and shifted the youth to the hospital. According to reports, the youth sustained serious burn injuries.
The witnesses said that the youth was aged around 30. A suicide note has been found in the bag that was lying on the roadside. The youth has been taken to the RML Hospital in Delhi. Details about the individual's health condition have not yet been disclosed. Following the police, forensic experts also arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation.
Items such as the individual's charred shoe and parts of his clothing were recovered from the site. A bag belonging to the youth was also found at the location and collected by the police. The suicide note was written in Hindi. However, it remains unclear why the young man attempted suicide or why he approached the vicinity of the Parliament. The contents of the suicide note have also not yet been made public.
The Parliament and its surrounding areas are among the most heavily secured zones in New Delhi. The police have stated that they will investigate how the youth managed to reach the area with materials capable of starting a fire, among other details.
