KOCHI: Some dancers have come up against the organizers of the Guinness record dance event that took place in Kaloor stadium on Sunday. One dancer admitted to paying Rs 5100 to attend the event. This included Rs 3500 as a registration fee and 1600 for the dress. According to the dancer, the organizers promised silk sarees but ended up providing them with cotton.
Food, accommodation and make-up were done by taking money from participants.
"I decided to participate in the program, in the hope of getting a Guinness Record certificate. I realized the chaotic organisation only after the MLA Uma Thomas incident. I then left the event without participating. In the past too, I have worked for such mammoth events but was not demanded such a high participation fee. I gave the money at the insistence of my mother. The organisers even promised gold coins to those dance teachers, capable of bringing big number of students to the event.
Bharatanatyam dance was organized with 12,600 dancers under the leadership of actress and dancer Divya Unni aiming to set a Guinness record. The organizers were Mridanga Vision Magazine, Wayanad. Apart from Kerala, dancers from various states and foreign countries like the Gulf, US, UK and Australia participated in the program.
After a month-long training, the dancers lined up for the program yesterday at Kaloor stadium. Film and serial stars like Devi Chandana, Uttara Unni, Ritu Mantra, Paris Lakshmi and their disciples participated in the event.
