SANAA: The President of Yemen has approved the execution of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya in the case of killing a Yemeni citizen. The execution may be carried out within a month. Efforts to release Nimisha by providing blood money failed to yield any results.
In 2017, the trial court sentenced Nimisha Priya to death in the case of killing Talal Abdu Mahdi, a citizen of Yemen. Blood money was the sole way to wriggle out of the death sentence and Nimisha Priya's mother Premakumari even went to Yemen to apologize to Talal's family in person. Talks were held with Talal's family but midway it got stalled. Premakumari is still in Yemen.
Premakumari now lives in the Sanaa residence of expatriate social activist Samuel Jerome, who coordinates the activities of the Save Nimisha Priya Action Council. Premakumari came here five months ago.
Nimisha is the wife of Thodupuzha resident Tommy Thomas. According to her, Talal gave fake promises of helping her start a clinic but he ended up seizing her passport. Nmisha went through brutal torture at the hands of Talal. It was in retaliation that she attacked him.
