THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The verdict in the Sharon murder case, sentencing the prime accused Greeshma to death, is one that Kerala had been waiting for. The court described it as one of the rarest of rare cases and awarded the death penalty to Greeshma. The court also commended the Kerala Police for conducting an exemplary investigation. It noted that the investigation was advanced with the times and made effective use of scientific evidence. The court stated that Greeshma was found guilty not only of murder but also of poisoning Sharon and misleading the police.

The very methods used by Greeshma to commit the crime were skillfully utilized by the Kerala Police to prove her guilt. From the early stages of the investigation, officers understood that Greeshma, being well-educated, had effectively used technology, including Google and other search engines, to plan the crime and explore ways to escape its consequences. This trail was meticulously followed by the police.

All of Greeshma and Sharon’s chats were retrieved during the investigation. Greeshma conducted research on what happens to the human body after administering slow poison, searched the internet for the types of poison that could be used, and deleted her Google search history. All these pieces of evidence were retrieved by the police.

Further, the investigation team gathered proper evidence to prove that Sharon had visited Greeshma’s house. They did so to refute Greeshma's claim that Sharon had not come to her house. All evidence was scientifically collected and presented in the court.

Considering all these factors, the court awarded a death sentence to Greeshma. The court made it clear that Greeshma's lack of a criminal history or her young age cannot prevent the imposition of the death penalty. It was an intentional and premeditated murder. Despite being bedridden for 11 days, Sharon never once blamed Greeshma, showing the depth of his love for her. Greeshma, however, betrayed his trust, continuing their relationship while plotting his murder. The court emphasized that the evidence proved Sharon’s poisoning was deliberate and that the so-called "juice challenge" was an attempt to kill him.

Greeshma maintained other relationships even after her marriage was fixed. The verdict also stated that it was confirmed she had engaged in a sexual relationship with Sharon. The court also observed that the act of poisoning and killing Sharon to end the relationship would send a terrible message. Greeshma’s age could not be considered a mitigating factor. Her attempts to cover up the crime and mislead the investigation failed. The court also noted that Greeshma’s alleged suicide attempt was an effort to derail the investigation.
