KATTAPPANA: Rs 3.11 lakh for a goat. 4,000 per chicken. Goats and chickens were sold for a huge amount in a public auction held by locals in Melechinnar near Kattapana to raise money for the treatment of a cancer-stricken man. People joined hands to help Jinsmon (43) of Melechinnar Valayath. The auction was from 9.30 pm to 4 am.
Jinsmon's family consists of his elderly father, mother, wife and three children. Jinsmon was diagnosed with cancer a year ago. Treatment is at Thiruvananthapuram RCC. Chemotherapy is done once a week. When Jinsmon, who worked as a painter, could not go for that work anymore, he supported his family by driving an autorickshaw bought with the help of kind hearts. He is too unwell to do that also now.
Doctors have said that Jinsmon's bone marrow should be transplanted. 20 lakh rupees is needed for that. The locals formed a relief fund and held a public auction for this purpose. Now they have to find another 15 lakh rupees. A concert was organized at Nedumkandam for that. A concert is also being held in Perinchankutty City today at 5 pm. The contribution fund is working with Fr Zakaria Kummanuparambil as Chairman, Saji Pezhathuvayil as Convener and Nedunkandam Panchayath member Rajesh Joseph as Coordinator.
