COIMBATORE: Gas leaked after an LPG tanker lorry overturned. The accident occurred Friday early morning at 3 am on Avinashi Road flyover in Coimbatore. The tanker lorry was going from Kochi to Coimbatore godown with 18 tonnes of cooking gas when it overturned.

The vehicle involved in the accident belonged to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). Reports said that when it reached the flyover, the tanker burst, separated from the lorry and fell onto the road. The driver was injured in the accident.

After noticing the gas leak, the driver of the tanker lorry informed the fire department. Police, fire force and BPCL officials reached the spot. The fire force has started efforts to control the situation by pumping water. A crane has been brought to lift the tanker lorry. It is suspected that another tanker lorry may be brought and try to transfer cooking gas to it.

In the wake of the incident, the Coimbatore City Police has stopped traffic on Avinashi Road. Several schools are located near the site. These schools have been closed for safety reasons.
