Nine convicted in Periya double murder case shifted to Kannur Central Jail

KANNUR: The nine convicted in the Periya double murder case have been shifted to Kannur Central Jail. Those shifted are Ranjith, Sudheesh, Sreerag, Anil Kumar, Saji, Ashwin, Peethambaran, Subeesh and Suresh. The convicts were taken to Kannur from Viyyur Sunday morning at 8.15 am today.


The jail authorities said they were shifted following the order of the court. The court had awarded double life imprisonment to the nine. The convicts themselves had demanded to transfer them to Kannur Central Jail. The convicts had also said that this would be good for their relatives to come and see them. They were shifted after the trial court approved this.


Meantime, the Congress and the CPM have decided to continue the legal fight. The Congress have decided to approach the court demanding an increase in their punishment. The CPM had also clarified that they will appeal in the wake of the verdict against leaders including former MLA K V Kunhiraman.
