THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sajan, a known mimicry artist, was engrossed in a dance performance, unperturbed by the occasional chatter and rumblings from the crowd. His countenance soon turned into joy and pride as the crowd came in unison with thundering applause for the dance performance. As the applause came down, Sajan’s daughter Pooja Dashmi slowly ambled out of the stage, conversing with her father through eyes.
Sajan was not ready for a direct answer when asked about his daughter's performance. Instead, he first talked about the strong relationship he continues to have with Kerala Kaumudi paper. For Sajan Pettah Vaidya, a native of Thiruvananthapuram Pettah, the Kerala Kaumudi headquarters is like his own backyard. He shared his memories of participating in programs on Kaumudi TV. Sajan was the winner of Mimicry, Mono Act and Bharatanatyam for six years in sub-district and district arts festivals.
Sajan was Pooja’s first dance teacher. The 14-year-old is a ninth-grade student at the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Pettah. She has been studying Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kerala dance since the age of four.
Sajan has also acted in two Malayalam films including Jayaram's ‘My Big Father’ and ‘Albuthadweep’. His son Yadav is also learning dance. Sajan’s wife Shalini is a homemaker.
