KOCHI: The High Court has decided to teach Boby Chemmanur a lesson for not leaving jail despite being granted bail. The court will order the investigation to be completed within two weeks and the trial to begin within a month. Justice PV Kunhikrishnan reprimanded Boby's lawyers, stating, "After the trial, Boby can spend as much time as he wants with the other prisoners. He should not play games with the court."
"Does Boby think that he can buy anything he wants? Does he think he is above the law? He is playing with the High Court. Will he handle all matters related to prisoners, and is the judiciary no longer needed? He even insulted the senior advocate who appeared on his behalf. I had set out to prepare his bail at 12:30 PM and issued it by 3:30 PM. Yet, he continued his drama. Is he declaring war on the judiciary?," said Justice PV Kunhikrishnan.
The court directed Boby's lawyers to call him and ask what he had said after being released from jail. Earlier in the morning, the court summoned his lawyers to inquire why Boby had refused to leave Kakkanad District Jail on Tuesday. The court criticized his behaviour and warned that contempt of court could lead to his bail being cancelled.
Boby's lawyers unconditionally apologized to the court when the court considered the case again at 12 PM. However, the court did not accept the apology. The court instructed the lawyers to confirm whether Boby had told the media that he stayed in jail for the sake of the prisoners. The court also stated that the matter would be heard again at 1:45 PM.
