KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has closed a suo motu case filed against businessman Boby Chemmanur for refusing to leave jail despite being granted bail. Boby issued an unconditional apology to the court, which was presented by his lawyer before Justice PV Kunhikrishnan. The court accepted the apology and dismissed the case.
Boby's lawyer assured the court that Boby would not comment further on the matter and requested the apology be accepted. The lawyer stated in court that Boby had not intended to insult the court, but had a slip of the tongue when speaking to the media. Following this, the court accepted the apology and closed the case. Justice PV Kunhikrishnan reminded Boby's lawyer not to declare war on the court. The High Court also criticized Boby’s behaviour, saying that he was acting like someone who won an Olympic medal.
Meanwhile, Boby Chemmanur explained that his delayed release from jail was due to the delay in receiving the bail order. He clarified that he did not intend to cause any inconvenience to anyone. Boby emphasized that he was not an egotistical person and expressed that he only has respect for the court. Earlier in the day, the court had summoned Boby's lawyers to inquire why he did not leave Kakkanad District Jail on Tuesday. The court expressed strong disapproval and stated that failure to respect the court could lead to the cancellation of his bail, among other actions.
