THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In exciting news for natives of the capital city, Thiruvananthapuram Airport will soon begin direct flight services to Thailand's capital Bangkok and London's Heathrow Airport. AirAsia is the operator of the Bangkok service. Air India Express has a service to Bangkok from Lucknow airport, operated by Adani. The Tata group-owned airline is trying to get approval for the Bangkok service from Thiruvananthapuram. It is known that Air India Express will start the Bangkok service from Kerala’s capital city as soon as their newly ordered flights are delivered.
With the announcement of direct services, the flow of tourists from Kerala to Thailand will surge. AirAsia may announce the Thiruvananthapuram-Bangkok service in the next summer. Air India's service to London's Heathrow Airport is also in progress. Permission was sought for a direct service to Heathrow, the UK's largest airport. With the coming of the Heathrow service, Malayalis, mostly students in UK, will have direct access rather than getting into connecting flights from Dubai and Singapore.
Airport officials told 'Kerala Kaumudi' that the Heathrow service may be announced in the summer schedule.
Two airlines are operating from Thiruvananthapuram to Malaysia for connectivity to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Indonesia. Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia have services to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These services are cheaper compared to a flight from Kochi to the same destination.
Air India Express, Indigo and Air Arabia have the most passengers from Thiruvananthapuram airport.
